AM Routine Detox: Brushing Your Teeth

We firmly believe that incorporating ethical and eco-conscious products into our daily routines is one of the best ways we can make a long-term impact on the health of our planet and its people. We all take time in the morning to brush our teeth, so let’s commit these few minutes each day to lower-impact living. Below are some tips that can help:

  1. Switch to a biodegradable, bamboo toothbrush. Bamboo forests can be grown much more quickly than other trees, making them a more renewable resource in addition to being biodegradable.   2. Avoid toothpaste with plastic microbeads. These micro plastics are small enough to wash down our drains and into our lakes and oceans, where they’re ingested by aquatic life and can end up in the fish we like to eat.   3. Choose an environmentally conscious toothpaste brand - and squeeze less on the brush! You only need a pea-sized amount to get your teeth squeaky-clean, and it means you’ll cycle through tubes less often which amounts to less cumulative waste. My favorite eco-conscious brands are Redmond Earthpaste, Hello and The Dirt (which has non-plastic packaging!)

  4. Make your own DIY toothpaste. Easy to find ingredients like coconut oil, bentonite clay, baking soda are effective tools for cleaning teeth, and making your own takes the worry out of what might be hiding in your paste. I like these DIY recipes from AskTheDentist.com.
